Brainy or Just Focussed?
And he is even the lead singer in quite modest rock band in bangalore.
This is about a person I saw in Vibrations 2005, the cultural fest of IISc, Bangalore. An software engineer by profession,
a mechanical engineer who won top prize in robotics during his graduation and also a good singer who can go on the stage and manage quite well. Quite smart and handsome, and obviously must be an extrovert. (Though this is my extrapolation, seems to be a decent guessestimate.)
Another person, same venue. He was the quiz master for corporate quiz copetetion. Software Engineer again and working for HP (heard he is quite good at that too), and aluminus of our department in IISc. Good in technology and Industry and also in quiz.
How can this be that a person is good (or in the above two cases good is only a modest word..we can call them excellent) in more than one field? Is it that somebody sitting above has been overgenrous with few people? Or is it that the dedication which they are able to provide to one thing at a time (and multiple things over few days) makes them what they are?
Why is it that most people simply struggle to master only one subject and many times fail at even that? Is it that they spread themselves very thin over many subjects? Is it that they are not able to recognize what talents they really possess.
I am lost in thoughts since saturday. Any comments? Anything more to share?

Guess u have answered ur questions - Is it that they spread themselves very thin over many subjects? Is it that they are not able to recognize what talents they really possess.
Further, most people who succeed are also those who have had an equal or larger no of failures too. But most who are 'average' do not fail as much.
While commoners waste too much time thinking about 'what if i fail?' the succesful people spend the same time in thinking 'what next?' - for them it is more about doing things than being successful or failures at them - they enjoy having 'done' and not having 'won'...
Thats my take .. might actually elaborate more on my own blog if n when i get time
